About Nelson

Nelson, BC, Canada is a small town with a big heart nestled in the snow-capped Selkirk Mountains, north of Vancouver Island. There are many things to do in Nelson BC and some are perhaps more interesting than others, such as the history, art and culture of the city.

The provincial parks around Nelson are breathtaking and make for a beautiful scenic road trip. The Fort Nelson Hotel offers easy access to many provincial parks and you can get in and out of Nelson City in just a few hours without parking fees.

Nelson was not around until the late 1880s, but it was the lure of the precious metals that attracted groups to the area. Nelson was founded in 1897 as a city with its own utilities - homes, thriving businesses and community activities.

Public transport in Nelson is provided by the West Kootenay Transit System, which runs several routes through the city and neighbouring communities.
